What's In Your Ice?Tony He, Senior Director - Business Development, Franke Foodservice Systems Asia

On a long hot summer’s day, nothing scould be more refreshing than an ice-cold drink, but have you ever considered that the ice in your drink may not be as safe as you had imagined?

Ice contamination is everywhere - from mold and algea to yeast and bacteria, ice contamination is real.

Ice contamination spreads easily starting with the growth of mold and algae growth inside of the ice machine which provides amiable temperature and humidity.

Further intervention from human hands in the transfer of ice from the ice machine using ice buckets and scoops whether to ice holding bins or to your cups directly further adds to ice contamination.

As a result, there are frequent reports of contaminated ice impacting food safety. Most solutions in place to keep ice machines and thereby ice clean are ineffective due to the lack of systematic ice safety protection. From the point that ice is formed to when it is either scooped or dispensed into your glass, the ice would have been exposed to several contamination points as shown in the diagram above.

Franke’s Eco3 Ice device

Franke’s solution is its Eco3Ice ice device designed and sized specifically for ice machines and remote ice bins. It is a compact, lightweight device that generates pure dissolved ozone resulting in Aqueous ozonated water circulating throughout the system, reducing or eliminating microbes one very surface that it touches.

Aqueous ozone is superior at reducing slime buildup one vaporator, pump, sump, water curtain, hoses, pipes and much more. As well, small amounts of ozone gas infiltrates hard-to-reach places.

Franke’s Eco3 Ice is installed between the water filter and the ice machine.

Franke’s Eco3 ice device is a revolutionary solution to safe ice for the whole food and beverage industry. See comparison test results in below.

Ice is one of the most important ingredients in cold beverages and the necessity to provide better ice to protect your customers and your brand.

Franke’s Eco3 Ice provides 4 major benefits:

• Cleanliness – dramatic microbial reduction

• Savings – Low cost and frequency of cleaning

• Long reach – clean remote storage bins and dispensers
